  3. Repeat Steps 1-2 to complete the additional side Pieced Clutch Panel.

  2. Stitch around the entire exterior edge of the Pieced Panel with a 1/8 inch basting stitch to secure the batting. Repeat for the opposite side.
  3. Using machine quilting or hand stitch along the seam lines of the patchwork piecing as desired. Repeat for the opposite side panel. See Figure 1 above.
  4. Trim away excess batting from around the entire exterior perimeter of the Pieced Clutch Panels to prepare for attaching the trims. Set aside.

  4. Use the grommet setter manufacturer’s instructions to attach the handle or top stitch in place. See Figure 2 above.

ASSEMBLING THE PURSE:

Adding the Zipper:

  1. Place the zipper RST with the top of one side of the Pieced Clutch Panel, leaving a 3/8 inch space from the zipper pull to the edge of the panel. Pin or clip in place.
  2. Using the zipper foot attachment, sew along the edge of the zipper adjusting the zipper pull out of the way as necessary.
  3. Place one piece of the Interior Lining RST with the Pieced Panel trapping the zipper in between the lining and panel. Pin in place, then sew together.
  4. Flip the Lining and Pieced Panel right sides out (wrong sides together) exposing the zipper and press lining and pieced panels flat along the top zipper seam.
  5. Topstitch sew 1/8 inch from the zipper edge across the pieced panel and lining.
  6. Repeat Steps 1-5 to attach the additional Pieced Panel side and lining to the zipper. *Note: The second interior lining will momentarily trap the previous lined side when sewing in place. See Figure 3 below.

    Figure 3

  7. Open the entire lined Pieced Panel with zipper flat and trim away any excess zipper ends.

Finishing the Purse Body:

  1. Make sure the zipper remains open at least 1/2 way throughout the following step to allow access through to all pieces when turning the purse right side out.
  2. Align the front and back Pieced Panels and front and back Lining pieces and pin in place. See Figure 4 below.

    Figure 4

  3. Leaving an approximate 4 inch opening in the bottom of the Lining, sew a 3/8 inch seam around the entire perimeter of the clutch, back stitching at the start and stop of the opening and across the zipper ends. *Note: Use caution when approaching the zipper ends to avoid hitting the end stops of the zipper and damaging the needle.
  4. Crop the corners of the Pieced Panel and Lining by cutting 1/8 inch diagonal on the outside of the corner seams. See Figure 4 above.
  5. Reach into the lining opening and turn the bag right side out. Use a blunt stick or fingers to press gently into the seams and corners and push them fully out.
  6. Sew the bottom lining opening closed with a top stitch 1/8 inch in from the folded edge.
  7. Stuff the Lining into the Pieced Panel body to complete the clutch!
