Love a ‘70s color palette? Mallory Hill’s stylish throw pillow pattern is filled with playful, retro vibes. Finishing at an 18-inch square, this quilted pillow pattern uses strip piecing techniques to create its eye-catching design and has an envelope back for easy stuffing. We think this retro-quilting project would look amazing in oranges and reds for a rustic, fall look, or in a coordinating palette to match your home décor.

- Sew the 9.5” x 9.5” Olive Green square to the top of the 9.5” strip set. Press seam.
- Beginning with an Olive Green strip, sew a Yellow strip to the right, followed by a Dark Green strip, and repeat to sew all nine 1.5” x 19” stripes together along the long edges. Press seams.
- Sew the 19” strip set to the left of the square plus strip set unit made in Step 2 in this section, aligning raw edges along the top edge of the square. Press seam.
- Trim the front of your pillow to 18.5” x 18.5”.
- Take your Pillow Back A and press one long edge 1/2” toward the wrong side, then repeat another 1/2” to fully enclose your raw edge. Sew with a scant 1/2” seam allowance along the fold to keep the hem in place. Repeat with one long edge of Pillow Back B.
- Place your finished Pillow Front on your work surface, right side up, with the top of the pillow at the top. Place Pillow Back B, right sides together with the Pillow Front matching the top and side raw edges.
- Place Pillow Back A, right sides together with the Pillow Front, with raw edges matching the sides and bottom of the Pillow Front. Your Pillow Back pieces should have the folded hemmed edges overlapping in the middle.
- Sew around the perimeter of the pillow using a 1/4” seam allowance. Back stitch at the beginning and end. Clip the corners, and turn the pillow right side out.
- Insert your pillow form, and enjoy!
