For as long as she can remember Marian has always loved playing with fabric scraps. She has fond memories of her mum teaching her how to embroider at the age of four. From a young age Marian was making dolls clothes for her Sindy doll on her mum’s Singer (knee crank) sewing machine, and in her teens she was sewing her own clothes.
Fast forward to 1993 – Marian enrolled into art school and two years later she graduated with an Associate Diploma in Art & Studio Design. Weaving was her major and continued to be her passion for many years. Marian was a latecomer to quilting (in the early 2000) and is self taught. Her friend who had recently opened a quilt shop inspired Marian to make her first quilt ~ a queen size log cabin, machine pieced and hand quilted.
Marian has always loved and been inspired by antique quilts, in particular 19th century sampler quilts ~ she has enjoyed making many repro doll quilts over the years. She still enjoys playing with a basketful of fabric scraps and is at her happiest with needle and thread in hand, sewing on a new project, either for herself or a gift for a kindred spirit. In case you haven’t already guessed, her favorite quilting style is scrappy ~ the scrappier the better!!
In 2014 Marian discovered Cheri Payne and immediately fell in love with her quirky, delightful prim designs (which also included wool appliqué). She was inspired by Cheri’s ‘no rules and make-do’ approach to quilting. Wonky blocks and cut-off points are just fine and simply add an element of charm & whimsy to a prim project. As much as she still enjoys making a Cheri project, these days Marian is having fun designing and creating her own prim folkart patterns which are available on Etsy www.mazeclectic.etsy.com You can also follow Marian on Instagram Marian Edwards (@maz_eclectic) | Instagram
