Instructions:
- Make 8 copies of the 4th of July Star Table Mat paper piecing pattern and cut them out along the outside lines.
- Mark each section of each pattern with the correct colors for ease of piecing as shown. (Notice when you label each section – it will be the reverse of what is on the front. Mark the correct sections.)
- Also mark the correct number on each section as is on the pattern.
- Sew the paper piecing pattern in the order shown. Having the fabrics cut into strips makes the assembly easier. Follow general paper piecing instructions.
- Once all 8 pieces are sewn, be sure to trim excess fabrics from around the outside edge.
- Sew 4 sections together into one half, and the other 4 into another half.
- Sew both sections together.
- Press seams open.
- Layer the batting between backing and quilt top, backing face up and quilt top face down.
- Pin baste around the outside edge.
- Sew 1/4 inch around the outside edge, leaving a 3” opening on one side for turning.
- Trim excess batting and backing even with the quilt top edge.
- Clip off outside excess from corner points and one clip into the inside corners.
- Carefully turn inside out and press.
- Turn and hand stitch the opening closed.
- Make a copy of the small star pattern from the 4th of July Star Table Mat paper piecing pattern page.
- Add a fusible like Steam a Seam 2 to the back of a leftover piece of backing – big enough to make 8 stars.
- Mark and cut out 8 stars.
- Position the stars on the quilt as shown and fuse down following the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Quilt as desired.
