Give a Gift
Nothing could be more perfect than making a quilt from soft Shannon Fabrics Cuddle fabric for a new grandbaby. The best part is, this quilt can be created in an afternoon.
When I found out the theme of one of my youngest grandbabies’ nursery was going to be Deer and the color Grey, I knew this Cuddle fabric would be perfect. I also wanted to create a quilt that would go from crib to toddler bed and beyond…I think it turned out perfect and I know that Gage is going to be enjoying it for years to come.
Materials:
- Shannon Fabrics Premier Deer To Me Cuddle, Graphite, 1 1/2 yards
- Shannon Fabrics Premier Archer Cuddle Silver/Snow, 2/3 yards
- Shannon Fabrics Solid Cuddle, Steel, 2/3 yards
- Shannon Fabrics Solid Cuddle, Charcoal, 2/3 yards
- Cotton Batting, 60” x 60”
- Thread to match
Tools:
- Sewing machine
- Rotary cutter & mat
- Scissors
- Pins
Instructions:
- Using rotary cutter and mat, cut the 2/3-yard lengths of Cuddle fabric into strips 7″ by the length of the fabric. There will be 9 strips total.
- Lay the batting out and place one strip of the Steel Cuddle, right side up, along one edge of batting. Then, place one strip of the Archer Cuddle on top of the Steel Cuddle, right sides together, being sure to have the nap of the Cuddle fabric going in the same direction. Pin in place.
- Machine stitch with a ½ inch seam.
- Fold the Archer Cuddle open onto the batting and pin a strip of Charcoal Cuddle on top right sides together, again being sure to have the nap going in the same direction. Stitch with a ½ inch seam.
- Repeat steps 2-4 with the rest of the strips.
- Place the Deer to Me Cuddle on top of the quilted cuddle you just created with right sides together, being sure to have the nap going in the same direction. Pin in place and then, stitch around the outside edges with a 1/2″ seam, leaving a 6″ opening to turn.
- Trim corners and turn so that right sides are out. Stitch up the 6″ opening by hand.
- Machine top stitch 1/2″ around the edges of the quilt and your done.
