Blooming Florals Wall Banner Pattern

Decorate awkward, blank wall space with a gorgeous trail of quilted spring blossoms. This wall banner pattern from Debi Schmitz is designed to fill narrow wall surfaces and features a winding vine of cheerful yellow flowers. Composed of eight quilt blocks, this wall quilt pattern’s details are blanket-stitched by machine and are easy to customize to your home’s décor color palette.

Abbreviations:

  • I/O = Iron-on Adhesive

Materials:

  • Pink print fabric: (1) Fat Quarter or 9 inches x 15 inches
  • Yellow solid fabric: (1) Fat Quarter or 9 inches x 9 inches
  • White solid fabric: 2/3-yard x 44 inches
  • Green batik fabric: (1) Fat Quarter or 9 inches x 9 inches
  • Green solid fabric: (1) Fat Quarter or 1/4 yard x 44 inches
  • Needled cotton batting: 18 inches x 24 inches
  • White thread
  • Pink thread
  • Green thread
  • Yellow thread
  • (7) 1/2 inch yellow buttons
  • (1) 3-yard package white 1/2 inch double fold bias tape (or make white bias out of an additional 18 inch x 18 inch square of white fabric)
  • Iron-on adhesive (Thermoweb Heat’n Bond Lite): 12 inches x 18 inches
  • Hand-sewing needle
  • Optional: Double stick picture hanging strip (3M or similar)

Cutting Instructions:

Pink print fabric:

  • (8) 1 1/2 inch x 6 inch strips with I/O

Yellow solid fabric:

  • (21) Pattern A– Flower Petals with I/O

White solid fabric:

  • (8) 6 1/2 inches x 6 1/2 inches
  • (1) 7 inches x 52 inches

Green batik fabric:

  • (19) Pattern B– Leaves with I/O

Green solid fabric:

  • (7) Pattern B– Leaves with I/O
  • (7) 1/4 inch x 9 inches

Needled cotton batting:

  • (8) 6 1/2 inches x 6 1/2 inches
  • (1) 7 inches x 52 inches

COLOR KEY:

Piecing Instructions:

  1. Press (1) pink strip to (1) white 6 1/2 inch square, 1 inch from the left side. Repeat for the other (7) white squares.

  2. Lay out the leaves (Pattern B) on (1) block from Step 1. Press in place. Repeat for (7) more blocks. Refer to the project photos for added interest, as some of the leaves can be attached upside down to show the fabric back.



  3. Lay out the flower petals (Pattern A) on (1) block from Step 2. Press in place. Repeat for (7) more blocks. Refer to the project photo for different placements.


  4. Machine-blanket stitch (or hand-stitch) around the pink stripes with pink thread, leaves with green thread, and flower petals with yellow thread.
  5. Pin two finished blocks RST, matching the pink stripe and stitch. Repeat until all (8) blocks are sewn together.
  6. Pin (1) 1/4 inch x 9 inch green strips between (2) flowers on the stem. Machine-stitch with a wide zig-zag stitch (or hand-stitch) the stem with green thread.
  7. Hand-stitch buttons to center of Pattern A and Pattern B leaves with yellow thread.

  8. Trim the 7 inch x 52 inch white fabric and batting the same size as the sewn block strip. Stitch around the outside edge of the banner through all three layers.
  9. Sew the bias to the front of the banner. Hand-stitch the back of the bias to the back of the banner.
  10. Use a double stick picture hanging strip to display.
