Two quilting classics combine with this gorgeous quilt pattern from Megan Farrell. Finishing at 50” x 68”, this spring quilt pattern uses both the traditional 8-point star and log cabin quilt blocks to create its cheerful design. Display your large throw quilt pattern on your bed or over your favorite armchair to give your home a pretty farmhouse look.
Finished Size: 50″ x 68″ (24 9″ blocks turn into 6 18″ blocks)
Designer Note: Colors listed in the charts below are based on color of sample pattern. Other colors can be used if wanted, but fabric requirements/cutting are set up using the sample colors for ease of calculation and color choosing.

Piecing Instructions:
- Draw one diagonal line on all White 4” squares.
- Pair 4” White Square with 4” Green square, right sides together. Sew a 1/4″ away from both sides of the line. Cut on the drawn line and this will yield qty two 3 1/2” Half Square Triangles (HST). Complete this step 24 times to yield qty 48 HST’s. (You may need to trim the HST’s to 3 1/2”, and should ensure they are all the same size.
- From Step 2, you will need qty two of your HST’s and one 3 1/2” white square and one 3 1/2” yellow square. These four pieces will be put together as a 4-patch. Sew White to one HST and Yellow to the other HST. (See drawing for placement). Once paired, you will sew the pairs together to create the 4-patch. Complete this step for all parts cut, to yield qty 24 4-patches.
- Sew qty one 1 1/2”x 6 1/2” scrappy orange to left side of 4-patch (with white in the upper corner and yellow in the bottom right corner.) Complete this step for all qty 24 4-patches.
- Sew qty one 1 1/2”x 7 1/2” scrappy blue to the top of Step four. (Yellow will remain in bottom right-hand corner of the block.) Complete this step for all 24 blocks.
- Sew qty one 1 1/2”x 7 1/2” scrappy Orange to left side of block, attach to scrappy orange from Step 4. Complete this step for all 24 blocks.
- Sew qty one 1 1/2”x 8 1/2” scrappy blue to top of block (attach to scrappy blue from Step 5.) Complete this step for all 24 blocks.
- Sew qty one 1 1/2”x 8 1/2” scrappy orange to the left of the block, attach to scrappy orange from Step 6. Complete this step for all 24 blocks.
- Sew qty one 1 1/2”x 9 1/2” scrappy blue to top of the block, attach to scrappy blue from Step 7. Complete this step for all 24 blocks.
- Pair up your finished blocks, by putting yellow blocks together. (Please see drawings for orientation.) Complete this 12 times.
- Put pairs from Step 10 together to make final block. Yellow blocks will be placed together, and the finished block will show all yellow in the middle of the finished block. You will complete this step 6 times, yielding qty 6 blocks.
- Sew blocks into rows, final layout will include 2 large blocks in one direction and 3 large blocks in the opposite direction.
BORDERS:
Once complete, you attach borders.
- Border 1, attach 2 1/2” strips to all four sides. Border will finish at 2”.
- Border 2, attach 1 1/2” strips to all four sides. Border will finish at 1”.
- Border 3, attach 4 1/2” strips to all four sides. Border will finish at 4”.
Add your batting, backing, and quilt as desired. Then add your binding to finish off the quilt.
